National Library of Wales, 28/7/23 -
Ascending the steps to the National Library of Wales is a sweet joy of memory. We eat the sweet cuboid cake that is piped like an iced gem (the raspberry one). A train toots. A man sneezes. The lady brings us our books, thank you. Biblical atlases beckon from index cards. I make notes in my phone to tell you after the studious hours have been served. The table is the colour of terracotta. The seats are quite soft. Your back can be straight. You can get a cup of coffee or a cola. A bite of panini, all griddled like mackerel. Children cook in the play pen. The book is a portal to pea-soup Horse Hospital. The town is before us. There are 4 shell clocks and a plate of good chips. Sips from the beakers, I like all of your 'sneakers', metal circles seat us, under trees near the car-park. Your car was my favourite, your car was my favourite.

Walter Benjamin is in Cardiff's Arcades with a bat in his pockette, 30/4/23 -
S.S. Prawer writes _World Literature and Karl Marx_ as Scoot observes in the Arcades of Benjamin's Cardiff. Years ago, it was new year. At a deli, it is suddenly Vienna, and Karl Marx is in there with Angels speaking about word-music and models and metaphors and Mozart, mm. Elsewhere, Lorca's house lies upstairs with palm-trees and storm-lamps. Elsewhere, there is a geometric door the shape of a pentagon-or-similar (to draw hair like that, on a tea-towel). A candle-tree provides a point of psychogeographical threshold, between Commerce Realm and Knowledge Realm. Thankfully, the University of Cardiff will supply the words of Vincent Kauffman on Guy Debord - hurray. Hurry. Why not Instagram? Egg coffee against dark tourism. Level F PN44.5.B1, Level F HX39.5.P9 - the joy of shelves. A Roxy t-shirt. Lizzo's of course got a Fantasy Bag (ezzackli). To wave by an escalator. Machiavelli said go to war. Possible rendezvous, see ya boys.

'It's got hints of honey, tropical fruits, and almonds and it's grown on the side of a volcano'; the poster-coffee, pin-up coffee, is pushed on the masses. A lady called C----- has white bees on her white shoesies and a white dog on her lap, her hair is blue. She feeds her dog some apricot pastry and says Love is Hard Work. The sacred, the profane. You have great new hair you're all grown up now, a perfect mullet forget them! A black and white tiled floor screams Peter Greenaway, and there's big fat ciné posters like in your old Regal Red. Lavendars blue, they look wizened and type into their phones, together. The honey is _green_! Beautiful people seem to come here. But everyone is beautiful (but you know what I mean). Spoons Aberystwyth, 27/4/10 -
A man in spoons Aberystwyth has a fake black pug-or-something- dog and it barks when he presses a button. It sits on the top of a booth-table (the ones on the right with the plugs that charge laptops looking out over the rail-tracks). He looks about for laughs at the bark; I look of course and laugh too. I take my hat off thinking that it might stop a fight. Does wearing skirts increase the chance of an argument? They are eating toast.

Corner Café, colourful flowers in troughs outside a Language Café. There had been cowslips on roundabouts, and blossom in a royalist pit-stop watering hole. Pigs with flashing eyes gaze out of a postcard, a French couple drink white wine and eat 'mushroom'-coloured mushrooms on toast. To cry at windows. A white skirt. A blue canteen. There are skulls in a book-shop and monsters in the river, and peanuts in a cup, and raindrops on laptops and paper, mm. Shards of wood are rafters to rain. The corner is missed; it doesn't matter. The olives are large. The spinach is greasy. The Daim bar snaps. The books are on shelves. I will write you a manifesto. I will save you a seat. I will walk quickly with you eating chips and feel confused and hurried. I will cook the apples. I will beat the eggs. I will observe the tree-lights. I will forget about some things. Shrewsbi, 15/4/23 -
In Shrewsbi I fall over as u meet me at the station. Thankfully, there is coffee and bricks and jaffa-cakes mm. Across the pathway there is BLOSSOM and a number of PASSAGE-WAYS, kingly but full of smashed ice, or glass. Up up, to seek the river, up up, a gate! Thru the gate, hey! There's a river, _and_ there's a FAIR (yuck), and an Ornate Garden (yuccck!!!!), and 'the latter' has all of its PLANTS _ARRANGED_ AAAAAAAAAGH! They are brightly coloured, and then there's a wire heron and a wire gate. At Henley Regatta, people sometimes sniff cocaine from porta-cabin toilets. There is a Shrewsbi Regatta and they spell it like that. There is a pub where you can see the water and the hearts on the water and you can eat crisps (a pub does not always sell a crisp). Pom-bears are rare. There is orange wine but there's no black cookie. Shrewsbury: The Capital of Safety. 'Salvador Dali's sculptures will be hitting the streets of Shrewsbury', help.

I lay for hours in the dark, hearing sounds, of my mother's moving about, of others coming and going from the kitchen, and inside sensing the heat of my own presence. Paddington to Millennium Dome (19/10/22) -
The standing ashtrays at Paddington station are full of fag-ends and 'trash' of other kinds. In 'P.O.P', shirted men and the ragged haired drink drinks and mutter to Chaka Khan. I thank the man collecting wrong rubbish from the standing ashtrays and he tells me I have long hair. Yes. He asks if it is from my mum or dad and I say both but my dad's lost it all now. So he says it must be from my mum, and that I must pass it onto my daughter. Gosh. It's nicely whimsical. Real flowers are on each table of P.O.P. I am stopping here because the next place is North Greenwich where pubs have been gentrified (it's true) out of Millennium Dome proximity. A Moretti costs £3.55 and tastes like water. I remember that we used to call cat George 'Baby Choux'. A sticker at a trolley-zone/illegal-smoke-place reads KÄSE in big black letters. Someone's phone number is etched onto the Trolley Point specifically in big etchy numerals. A fat cheese clock moon hovers in the newly refurbished Victoria Line archway. In P.O.P there is Junior Scrabble only, and a 'KEBAB - BURGER - FISH & CHIPS' takeaway across the road is named 'LOLITA'. 'BE PATIENT WITH OTHERS' says a sand-timer on the This-is-a-Bakerloo-Line-Train-to-Elephant-and-Castle. The Millennium Dome _is_ mental. 'Hungry? Thirsty? Brunch. BBQ. Bar. The Joint this way'. Well. Hotel skyline. There's a Millennium Way in both North Greenwich and Bracknell, remembered on double-Googl-checking departure locations. There's not long anyway but it's an _unnavigable place_. I read about hauntology at Bus Stop F waiting for the Flixbus and feel _ridiculous_.
Bute Road (19/10/22) -
Leaving 'the bay' we pass a big columned building all boarded up. I wish to take a SNAP but we are talking of poems and fish. Which is nice. Many little houses with little out-houses. Cracky concrete, rippling from roots. A bell chimes NOON approaching the station-zone. GORE. U talk of trying not to ghost people. Good luck. Into the city a café is needed quickly. We were once together in Waterstones. Here is a place of pirate radio. The voices are treasure in my ears on £5 NON-EARBUDS. You asked me about Utopia at breakfast. More riddles, plz. Um, ulna. Ulna is now in my predictive phone text. Hmm. I've only wrote it once (in Po-hems). Well, I was cherishing the waves. Next, I bought old party eye-liner. The shoes are black and heavy in my bag. Cardiff pumps. There is a shop with a curtain for Hare Krishna. He feeds me later, as a woman holds pink lotus flowers on a wall with crystal eyes. I love her a lot. Cardiff university is a giant hot air balloon. I am in its rose gardens, and then Bute Park, as you pluck-told-me, C. Instruments trinkle across the canal, and I am tears. A park bench is lilac. Lilac, west-end lane. Institutions. People who don't feel to rise to be in Institutions. Back into Capitol, cash change scattering on the floor. Well, it's not long now. Tock tick, o, Greenwich. That famous dome. An explosion. Colossal frustration. Sailing, pink script on the plinths.
Cardiff Bay (18/10/22) -
A wtf breakfast tour. Get me outta here. There is no inclination to list all of the things, except mention the possibility of proximal cheese and chocolate. Come-up-n-see-me-let-me-shine plays as sun rises over bay. Is it timed? I want to joke with someone about it but everyone's sitting isolated. What the hell is going on. Sitting on the dock of the bay. This 'the bay' has different sitters now. In my room the telly all night said 'Sit Back and Relax', capitalised. The word 'Sit'. I imagined a poem with the title 'Sit'. To be told to 'Sit'. How horrid. They do not make as nice breakfasts in this 5* palace as Aberystwyth's Carlton (thank you). Booths in a Belfast old place discussed in yesterday evening's corporate quarters, of a different kind (wooden doors not velour benches). Truss antix. Taiwan. I dreamt of terrifying lifts. There are not stairs here. Fucking huge swans lump and lug and jug and chug across the water. I must depart. I ride the lifts but only because I forgot to check the schedule, mark my wordz z z.

The sun rises on the 7.17 to CARDIFF CENTRAL. My intention is to arrive and seek a morsel and COFFEE at a café calling oneself Baguetty Junction. A woman does not lift her eyes to show her train ticket, just raises her hand with it in it. Yikes/yuck. Two school girls sit opposite, buds in ears, badges on lapels. Aberystwyth High St (19/9/22) -
Everything
has shut down for the Queen. Ghost town for the Queen. Another dead
seagull. It is midday and all the anti-Royalists are out. ‘We will be closed between
10.30am – 2.00pm on Monday 19th September for the funeral of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II / SPAR’. I went to the garage and bought some
chocolate. My friend buys tins. Fish and chips shop and pubs are open. The mannequins glare behind
shaded black. Some of them are wearing black this week, even, and some of them
hold SUN flowers. Thup thup thup slipper-like feet on the grey pavement,
dressing-gowns and rosy cheeks rosier than usual. De-vi-ance. Black clothes in pictures. Black
+ white notices in all of the windows. Black. Black. The Queen’s white
hair is a complex halo. Crash crash crash, waves.
Newtown Ghost Town (16/9/22) -
No waiting-rooms
at the station, they’re waiting for buyers. Big towering mill (proto-Amazon will
say Textile Museum man). Phoenix Furniture Centre temptation: garage/dance tunez,
fake blue orchids on multiple tables laid for dining. What was the way of the
Sports Hall before? The Railway Tavern is closed before 10, and a single lens
from someone’s glasses is on the pavement. McDonald’s to the left standing
outside Queen’s Head pub – massive hanging baskets – Burger King to the right,
TESCO on horizon. BK Drive Thru says ‘The easiest game of limbo ever: Clearance
2.8m’. Glass pavilions for sale from Evans Windows, Red Mango Fine Indian Cuisine
EAT OUT TO HELP OUT. Kwik Fit and bp garage ‘Shop ‘n Drive’ and ‘Wash ‘n Drive’
+ Costa Express. Detouring past the main junction from station to town-centre, decide
I’ve gone too far at the garage; turn around and cross back over guided by Maccy
D’s and the Queen’s hanging-basket Head again to refind my way. Find myself in
one of the council-run carparks, empty on a Friday morning in autumn’s tickle.
TALWCH YMA PAY HERE universal slogan. Donation boxes under Robert Owen
portraits later. Queen’s Head is missing it’s ‘A’, I can see now from here. A
sign explains Newtown’s ‘Greatest Survivor, Standing Tall for Over 350 Years’,
the ‘Newtown Black Poplar Tree’. War Memorial, public toilets. ‘FAMOUS SHOP’ selling
‘FOOD DRINK SWEET’. A map of the town next to the loos
on ‘Gas Street’ leading to river Severn and bridges to sprawling new-town
residencies where shoppers take their loot in Tesco plastic bags spilling from
rucksacks. The Post Office advertises ‘One-Stop Party and Balloon Shop’ with
hyper metallick banners and streamers. Leaning on the city’s grey stone-wall to
rest a clip-board left-hand. Café opposite memorial’s called HEALTH LOADED
NUTRITION BAR. Rowan berries turn orange. Nothing is open; I’d like to charge
my phone after quick decision to come here on reduced-Robert-Owen-opening-hours
discovery this morning. In just half an hour so many green-manned junctions
crossed. The war memorial is on a traffic island garden – I sit on a bench in
there, anomaly pedestrian in engine-whirlpool euphoria. Navigate toward Lidl west,
church south, black clouds and scorch sun both threaten. I am lost but
see another sign for ‘Town Centre’ and italicised ‘i’ in a box: INFORMATION. ‘FLEXIBLE
LEASE TERM’ signs on big office buildings, ‘Newtown HAND WASH CAR WASH’. Old
woman with a hip bright yellow Ruck Sack trots by. More windows mourn the Queen.
I am suddenly on the High Street. Fabric Shop, Cancer Research, Powys Animal
Welfare, chaos: a charming book corner, crochet table-clothes, probably
beanbags. Plenty of knitting tools and folders. Scummy plastics. Tupperwear.
Red-rubber hot water bottle. Tempted to buy a kids WALES t-shirt in the same
red lure. More closed cafés (it’s past 10 now). Rain is coming but I’m in a
hood. Well-dressed mannequins at Sally Ann’s. I am jealous of a daughter and
her nan overheard seeking a café, too, together. Apples in a box, spider plants
in a tray. Leggings with pandas and moons on them and something motivational.
More traffic islands. Plant shops. Empty streets, weather’s grey helping ghosty
expectations. Occult owls or dragons peer from CR3ATIVE DESIGN. Silver skulls
under baseball caps in a flaaash menswear store. I’m at the banks-junction – HSBC,
Barclays, Coral – and seek caffeine. ‘NEWTOPIA’ art-shop is closed for good. There are no plug sockets in Café Market Hall. Towers of cut glass.
Pornographic lighters, Blues ballads, and many alarm clock on ubiquitous stall
of spanners and belts and watch-straps. Here’s the rain. Phew, Bear-Lanes-70s-precinct
umbrella. 'Shoes for the Soul '. Choux for the sole. Swimming-poool chlorine vibe. Knitted post-box monarchy memorialising – ‘isn’t it lovely?’ – gets rained
on. Focus dwindling. Coffee for me, and a charge for the cellphone. Ghost
ginger-bread man in Costa and I am a traitor.

She likes the sea when it's fiercest. 'The Tide is High' is playing uncannily in this 70s-carpet-room with mysterious bar draft taps. She sits in bed in the middle of the night imagining
letters she'd write to people from all across her life now she can no longer hand-write. A liberation and an oppression. The bathroom is incredibly pink and tiled, with fake white
flowers (orchids, + tiny pearlz). The sinks are white orchids. There is blue soap in the
dispensers and spots of water diamonding on that kind of glittery matte bathroom floor. A dead dandy-long-legs is on the toilet seat I will sit on. If
old writers could have taken phone photos instead would they have? Good Morning, Midnight finished this good morning. A man sat with a chalice of lager in the triangled window
with his wife, waiting for their lunch (sandwich and chips). Want to be them. Sea silently crashes at the window. Skateboarding once tried to happen at the round-a-bout
outside. What a mistake - all the gems were inside. Tattered old extinction rebellion poster on a wheelie bin on
the seafront leaving the 1940s romance, conversations dancing quietly at + tables +.
Porte de la Chapelle (21/8/18) -
Paris on an unknown day of Ramadan. Little fuzzy nameless cat toy on small wooden shelf next to mattress, big conifer out of the winda. I ran down the street and back up again, big Boulevard Macdonald. 219 Macdonald, Crimeà newsagent's good directions. Centre social et culturel Rosa-Parks. Marx Dormoy, Rue de Evangile. Bachelard, no. A bug bit my ankle. Scrolls n scrolls of glowing messages with rainbows and other emojis, numbers, addresses, gaming locations and match making individuals, families, symphonies of good people, for beds for the night.10pm, still 10 groups to go. Two 'foit' and 'fatigué' ladiiies. Dark green line. Off we go. 'Ça va? Ça va?' Ate baguette, offered me too. 3 of us holding hands, tears. 3 Metro tickets, boistrous Metro night.Lamarck, 90 steps, eventual lift. Husband on phone.A heart, couer, was hurting. He told me she was fasting and to help see that she ate at night. Of course. Big rucksacks. Avenue du Junot. Last stretch. Phone out of memory - too many photos of flowers and strange light and animal toys - so written map of notes it was . . . insufficient. Voice doused with heavy hope, good strangers. Irish Angel in ENGLISH . More directions. Thank. You. Everybody in Lamarck looks immaculate (Woody Allen film), talking cosy, drinking wine, bars fluttering the streets, colourful luminous butterflies coming and going as they please.Sick sick sick, I bite back tears.'38', '36', '29'. . . . '23', where are you? sO weary nOw... 'bis 23 rue du Junot'. Yes.In. Lavish red-pattern carpet. 'Ça va? Ça va?' 'Ça va.'... Like winking at eachother, deeply. Greetings from resident in their bed on arrival - 'Hello'. 'Do "they" speak French?', quick, brief exchanges. Plz put ur bags down, girls. Pangs of anger. Me a glass of water? Not they? 'No, thank you.', two good-byes - a kiss on both cheeks always - and 'Bon courage' to the residents... 'Bon soirée' to the two. Fly fly fly down Carpet Rouge, burst burst to the street ('Porte' button to leave, not real, big big gilded wood doors out of - sanctuary - 'bis 23'). More tear-biting. Thank f * * * that's done. Uncanny bar passing Metro (I'm walking), Café Refuge. . . ffs. F*** it, another Metro, safely back to Marx Dormoy company, and the night, thnkgod, continué. .. . . refuge ...
The Lexicon, Bracknell (17/5/18) -
Neuropathways are traffic. 'Princess Square', shiny floors only slightly dulled by decades of journeying from Boots to Sainsburys to Argos, is being usurped. Big pre-fab re-gen LEXICON monument-in-progress is ungenerously studded with strategically-placed 'wild flowers' around the escalator Heart. Painted underpass moat hints at pasts that are like fairytales in a manufactured location where, rootless, some flock to make their 'small' fortunes, others turfed out here, some wind up. It's home. Is it? A new Saviour voice to transform the tired new town ... rivaling Windsor, rivaling Reading, your old Ldn. Soundtracks of nature boom thru giant plastic boomboxes in this 'Forest' Borough; images of weeds are enshrined in shiny metal inlays among shiny nu shops which raaze rainforests and pay their displaced rural peoples a pittance or notthing. And still we use Garnier and Head-and-Shoulders and Palm-Olive, agonising over the perfect curve of our silly heads covered in God's hair.
Extinct Waterstones Café, Bracknell (17/8/15) -
Across from us sits a man in a shirt saying 'Roof of the World' on it. He is with his mother and grandmother at a small, ciircular green marble tabelle. For a long whyle, none of them spoke. Then, they did. The man has a crinkled smile and a smooth, taught face. The eldest woman is fuluffy and white, and the younger has a head of R u st. They allll get up to leave. They look like a STRONG trio. Isn't that nice. O,

the North End.
